Become a Legion Member

Membership of the Legion of Rowers generates the following value for members:

  • Actively advocates for Masters’ rowers in New Zealand through its participation in Rowing New Zealand (RNZ) forums, the most recent being the “Masters’ Strategy for Rowing New Zealand” and the change to the masters’ novice season approved at the RNZ AGM
  • The Legion organises 2 masters regattas in the North Island each year which benefits all masters rowers in NZ who wish to participate; Legion members participate at a lower cost through their membership
  • The regatta programmes at these events focus on and continue to be updated to maximise the opportunities for masters’ rowers to participate in these regattas
  • The Legion has introduced a ‘New Masters’ classification to improve the competitiveness of adult novice masters’ rowers in the first five years of their rowing career. This initiative has increased the participation of new adult masters’ rowers in the last two seasons
  • The Legion supports of the emerging NZ international rowers through the financial support of Junior rowers representing NZ
  • By organising and providing a social function at Legion regattas members have the opportunity to socialise with their masters’ rowing colleagues at these events
  • Receipt of a quarterly newsletter prepared by the Legion. While this newsletter is distributed to members and non-members it would not be prepared without the Legion’s co-ordination and maintenance of the distribution list.
  • Subscriptions are currently $40 per year.
  • As a member you will receive all newsletters and discounted entry fees for our regattas – value currently $40!
  • Donations to the “Juniors Fund” will be gratefully received and accrued for the benefit of Under-19 (Junior) rowers selected to row overseas for New Zealand at World Rowing’s Junior Regatta
  • Grants given to Juniors comprise all donations received and any surplus from the Legion’s regattas.
  • Any amount over $40 received as a membership fee will be treated as a donation.
  • The subscription year is 1st April to 1st March.
