The famous Auckland schools regatta, Head of the Harbour, has started adding Masters events to the schedule. Run on Saturday 7th February there were strong entries in the Masters single sculls event with West End’s Amanda Badger winning and Brittany Smith coming second. Honourable mention to the lone Cambridge Sculler. Jen Muller making the journey north.
The masters Doubles event was also won by West End (Badger and Smith) with North Shore’s Richie McFelin and Loren Gerbich in second.
Sadly no entries were received in the masters coxless four or quad sculls events. And the sole entrant in the Masters Eights got to race alongside the Girls U15 eights and came a creditable third in a screaming tail wind. Cox Grant Craies said “The water was flat for the first half and so we decided to go out really hard and hope we coped with the rougher water better than others. I saw splits of 1:41 which shows how fast these young girls can race.”
Four seat in the eight was Judith Quinlan who said she’s last raced exactly 20 years ago to the day when her Westlake Girls U18 eight won the Head of the Harbour race – her comeback continues.
